"SENIOR FASHION DESIGN MAJOR READY TO SHOW HER INNOVATIVE GARMENTS AT THE FASHION SHOW"

..."Geissler’s women’s sportswear collection – inspired by a backpacking trip through Europe last summer – incorporates reflective fabric that will illuminate the garments as the models walk down the runway. Her eveningwear look, inspired by Picasso’s "constellation" drawings, will include intricate LED lighting, powered by a coin cell battery.

At the fashion show, Geissler will receive the Frank Agostino Critic Award for Best Use of Innovative Fabrics for her senior collection and the Amy Devan Critic Award for Most Creative eveningwear. She has also been awarded the Portfolio Critic Award, sponsored by Anthropologie.

Geissler, who has a double minor in Textiles and Business, has always been one to push the envelope. She opened last year’s fashion show with her junior “resort wear” collection. She was one of two fashion students to use the laser cutter in Moore’s fabrication lab to create her garments. She won the Ashley Scott Critic Award for her collection.

“I learned how to use the laser cutter and I really liked the process and thought it was a really innovative tool,” she said. “I always strive to be innovative with my work.”

Geissler was the only student to receive both the Penny Fox Internship Fellowship Award and the Frieda Fehrenbacher International Travel Fellowship last year."...
